I usually use the remote to unlock the doors on my 2000 camaro but I noticed when I unloock the door with my key the damn alarm goes off, why is this and what can I do to stop it?

Yeah, check your owner's manual for "Feature Customization", or something like that. If you can't find it, just look under alarm.
It's just added security, and like they said above, you've got 5-7 seconds to get the key in the ignition and turned to "run".
