• Hows this for a bolt on 3.8?

Mind you this is my friends plan for his 01 3.8 automatic Camaro (Y87 I believe)

Whisper Lid with Holley Filter
SLP Cold air ram
Magnaflow Catback
SLP Rocker Arm kit
ZZP Underdrive water pump and alternator pulleys
Hypertech Tuner (Tuning for 93 octane)
Aluminum driveshaft
Accel Extreme spark plug wires

How much power at the motor can we look forward too?

rocker arm kit is pointless
i don't think that they make underdrive pullies for 01's
should just spend the extra money for a hp tuner.

to be honest say he has a 01 , he's probably putting about 170 hp to the ground(since you lose 15% power to the wheels) you might get 25 hp out of it. but that would have to be fully tuned.

i mean look at my set up. n/z i'm running with like 211 hp i think. with nitrous it's 311.
so if hes looking for power, you can do the mods needed to be done with nirtrous and go that way. cheaper and more power.

why are the rockers useless?

I thought it was a gain of roughly 14 hp across the powerband with them. which is pretty nice.

Though I have heard a cam is cheaper/easier to do.

I'd skip the hypertech, ramair, and pulleys.

use that money towards gears/lsd/converter whatever the car may need.

As for the plugs, I'd skip the accels and go with MSDs, and maybe go the full heat sheathing route, to avoid any potential problems.(skim this thread)

The things you listed will help, but in my opinion ot the best bang for the buck.

If its a y87 then put the money towards a converter.

that I don't know... not an auto man...

something to consider if you are interested in more then a drag setup... is suspension upgrades.

No, it's not pointless. Doesn't give the gains that a cam does, and for the price it's not as great, but it IS easier on the valvetrain

If they make them for 3.8's, they make them for '01's

Be careful in my forum with all that factual info

rockers might put out as much as 10hp. which to me isn't worth 400 bucks.

i would rather spend 300 bucks and get a gt 2 cam and gain 25-30 hp.

keep in mind that with every mod your not going to get the hp soon as you slap the mod on. you need to tune everything for more gains.

Again, he might not be comfortable putting all that extra strain on the valvetrain. Rockers are DEFINITELY not as hard on it as a cam is.

Seems like you're talking to me like I don't know what's up

with a cam you need a tune with teh rockers you don't they were designed to add gains with stock tune, hence why they are not as "wild" as cam numbers.

because with cam, you need to upgrade valvetrain, and get a tune. Your $300 gets into like $600-700.

some people just want gains, not record breakers
