  • did i bend something?

Ok as i posted couple days ago i hit a curb and cracked my rim. well i got a new rim and all and i just took my car out for a spin around the block. When im going, my right rear brakes i guess are squeaking. when i apply a little pressure to the brakes the squeak stops. If i go and push harder on the brakes i guess bout 1/2 pressure it sounds like a whale or a high pitched tuba blowing! What is wrong.

i dont think it needs new pads. I hit a curb last wed going bout 20mph sideways busted my rim. I think i might have bent the caliper is there a way you can fix it?

maybe the rotor is bent i dont think it would be the caliper. pull the wheel off and check everything then let us know. the only time ive heard the noise you described is when the pads are down to nothing or if the rotor is warped. and in your case im thinking you may have a bent/warped rotor.

i cant remember off the top of my head probably around 40 bucks. you might as well get the pads while youre at though. if the rotors are shot the pads probably have uneven wear on them.

not really. takes about a hour if you dont know what you doing. best thing i can tell you to do is get a haynes manual while youre at autozone. it gives you the step by step on how to do it.

Im with bibber on this one, you could've loosened a brake pad or messed up the rotor, inspect the brakes.

How many miles on the car?

If you're going for cheap, the best deal on oem-style rotors and ceramic pads is Autozone. You can replace one rotor. You can't replace one pad-- you'd need to do both in back. Buy the little $.99 packet of anti-squeal/slide lube and use it on the caliper slides and the back of the brake pads. Also consider buying a brake hardware kit [just to make sure all the noises go away the first time].

If you f'ed up the caliper, you can buy a replacement that is already loaded with new pads. Again, you shouldn't buy just one, you're supposed to buy a matched pair for each axle [for safety reasons]. Obviously, if you're dealing with this step, you also have to deal with bleeding out the brake system.

In addition to the parts store repair manual, the installuniversity.com article on brakes will help you. Just get all the tools ready in advance, and leave yourself much more time than you think you'll need. The first brake job I did took 2 hours and I went really, really slowly.
