  • Could car start problems be caused by faulty camshaft position sensor?

I tried to search around and see if there were any others with topics like mine, but I wanted to see what the forum as a whole thought.

Sometimes my car simply won't start. 97% of the time it starts relatively fine, but the rest of the time it'll turn over and over but simply will not start.

    What you need to know:
    1) I recently replaced the plugs and wires
    2) I put premium fuel in the car so it's not crappy fuel
    3) I don't think it's the starter... it turns over fine the vast majority of the time..
    4) It's not the battery or the alternator. It has turned over repeatedly with the car jumped with no success.
    5) I had a leaky, faulty water pump. The mechanic who fixed it said, "Water has been dripping on the camshaft position sensor, but I cleaned it off."

Well... I'm thinking that cleaning it off didn't help and that it's faulty somehow.

How plausible is this? At one point I thought it was a faulty fuel pump, but I have trouble buying that considering the car never dies and has no problem running just fine.

Thoughts? Help? I really need to get this fixed... I need a car that starts reliably...

    Thank you!

could be your cause. inspect the plug and everything

You know putting in higher grade fuel can cause hard starts right?

i agree with blldogg on possibly being your cause, though not so much on the higher grade fuel... im picky on what i put in my car, and i've put all grades. just mainly picky on where i get my fuel, some places dont check for water in their tanks as often as they should, or at all. so i make sure i dont get fuel at those places... they suck. as far as where to get it, i only know my local places so couldnt help you any.

but when you start you car do you turn the key to 'on' position and let the fuel pump prime your system before trying to start? or do you just turn the key and try to start right off the back? i know my car does this also at times, but i usually let it prime itself and it's getting better on first try starts letting it prime. so, not for sure on how you start yours...
