  • SES - EGR Solenoid.. Low oil pressure?

    1994 Camaro 3.4L M5
    101,000 miles

I've been noticing HORRIBLE fuel economy. (About 10-11 MPG? I use to get 17-20) and for the past couple of months I've noticed something is ****ed up with my car. Whenever I start it and pull out of a parking space in a parking lot if I try to do it without throwing a rev or using the gas... the cars oil pressure goes waaay down and damn near stalls... I'm letting the clutch out as SLOW as I can, I use to be able to do it fine. If I give it a rev to about 3k I can pretty much drop the clutch if I want.

I went to O'Reillys today and borrowed their OBD-1 Scanner. It pulled the trouble code saying "EGR Solenoid 1" so I went in and the cheapest one was like $150, AC Delco was like $350.

Anyway, is that a typical symptom of a stuck/failing EGR valve? Or could it be something else that isn't throwing a code? (oil sending unit? o2?) Is this something that can be easily replaired myself? Where's the EGR valve on a 1994 3.4L

oil pressure will fall with RPM. sounds like the motor was just being bogged down. EGR will not have a direct relationship to oil pressure. Especialy not with that code.

I've been driving it for over a year so I'm really use to the clutch and I use to be able to get it moving on a flat surface without any gas... now I have to rev it to 1500-2000 to keep it from stalling.

theres a metal tube that comes off the left side of the intake follow it until you get to the egr valve. btw its a pain in the @zz to mess with.

I found it last night when I went out to look for it. Do thoose symptoms sound like a faulty EGR?

A tune up should work, that should get you up to par with you're fuel economy.
EGR, won't cause any of the symptoms you just mentioned, you can buy a new EGR off ebay for $75, beats paying $150.
Till then you can clean the passages of you're current one till you get a replacement.

How do I clean it? Seafoam or something?

The car has a tuneup about 6k/1.5 years ago (car was parked for a while)

Seafoam you use throught you're pcv system. You can clean it with some carb cleaner, just be sure to remove the EGR first and spray down the inside of the 3 passages, then let it dry.
