i would replace the pump in the tank. this pump has a filter sock on it that can get clogged sometimes, possibly lowering fuel pressure and volume. if you just throw an in-line pump on there, you're still sucking through the same dirty filter sock.

IMO, your better off replacing the intank pump with something better. Adding an inline won't work how I think you want it to. If your fuel pump dies, you want to put the new one directly inline with the old, burned out one? I could be wrong here, but I think the old one would seize and not spin, thereby blocking the fuel if you tried to pull it from the same tubing farther down the line. Ya see what I mean? Besides, just do the intank, it's easier than you think and your thank yourself later. You can the Walbro 255lph pump for under $100.

Bird, what you say makes sense, but then why is it benefitial to run an inline pump to increase fuel flow in normal conditions? Wouldn't you be limited by the flow of the intank pump in that case as well?

I could be wrong on this, but wouldn't it kinda just pull the stock pump harder? The only reason I wouldn't recommend what Red is talking about is that if the intank fuel pump is seized, no fuel will get past it. Anyone else have some thoughts on this?

I am getting my fuel pump replaced here well as soon as the thing gets here from gmpartsdirect.com but the reason i have to get a new pump or should i say the entire sending unit is that some stupid little check valve went out in my tank, so my pump works good, except for the fact that i have no fuel pressure when i shut the car off. i spose the reason i am tellin you all this is the fact that there could be more wrong then just the pump there are alot of little pieces in the sending unit in the tank.

Are their any other options for replacing the fuel pump, such as one from a Z28 or such.

There are a few companies out there that make high flow replacement pumps. Walbro & Holley to name a few. At LS1 motorsports, they drilled the tank and put in -AN fittings with a Aeromotive 1000hp pump that is out of the tank mounted on the frame rail. They are running a turbo LS1, but it's a pretty sweet setup. Along with the pump, they have a Aeromotive high flow filter between the pump and the tank to make sure that they don't burn their pump up. This would be a lot of custom plumbing and the pump would be over kill, but it sure would be nice. It is the setup that I will be running when I put the LS1 in.
