  • Spark Plugs and Wires change ........ ARGHHH

Well today after coming from school early i decided to change my plugs and wires and face one of the most difficult task ever! ...........WHY GM, WHY??? .......why would you put the spark plugs in such place and angle that a normal human being cannot change it .......... After trying to change ONE plug for more than a hour i gave up .........i could not change one plug!!! .........my hands are small and they were f'ing bleeding .......... so, i changed all the wires (which was my misfire problem) and the wires are awesome ......MSD  ....... and i am also testing this new heat sheating ........i'll let u guys know how it turns out........... since i am off all next week(spring break) i am thinking of attacking my car again on monday to change the plugs .......... here's tool i have

What f'ing else do it need? ..... you can see i got two diff. spark plug sockets, 1 swivel head 3/8" wrench, 1 normal 3/8" wrench, 3" extension, and swivel head....... maybe a longer extension or spiral (flex neck) extension? .........i think my problem was clearance ......... would a flex neck solve that problem?

    Thanks .........

When my friend popped the hood to his truck today, i was amazed at how much space they have to work with compared to f-bodies

I found the ultimate tool for doing the plugs on our cars. We sell it up here at NAPA in Canada, and I assume the US stores will have it to. Its called the Go-Through Socket Set. Its like a gear drive wrench with short sockets that are hollow, so you can use them on really long studs, or in this case spark plugs.

Go down to your local NAPA and ask, they should have it.

a melted wire is not an issue with the wire itself...it's an issue with routing

Throw some headers on there and it will only take 20-30 min. for plugs and wires.

under the car for the 4 rears, the pass. middle you put the socket on from the bottom then put the rachet on from the top. you need all different kinds of extentions also.

                        Ha, yea...plugs are fun...

Lift the car up, get a bunch of different extensions, and possibly a person to help guide you from uptop while you're under the car--I remember only being able to get to some when I couldn't see them from where I was at. That's what it took for me. (I'm skinny as hell too...the only way I could get to the last one was to shove my hand up there and get a lil bloody) Look at each plug like a puzzle :D

unless there are some kind of invisible wires, how can u route them away from the plug???? ........ my boot was messed up in surrounding heat from the manifold .........

yes, i did lift my car and i was trying to get them from the bottom ............

You need to use the swivel head and a LONG extension. That way your hands get out of the way and you have more room to work. I think I used a swivel extension right at the end of the long extension before the socket as well.
