I noticed that wire too and read somewhere recently what it was... I can't remember for sure but I think it was to prime the fuel pump alright or something like that anyway.

fuel pump prime. It's a red wire or a grey wire depdning on year. It bypasses the relay and allows you to send 12 volts directly to the pump for testing1996 Silver camaro Z28.
