    My wife has a 98 olds 88 with the 3800 Series II. The belt tensioner's bearings froze and burnt up the belt. I was looking at the tensioner and was wandering if it's any different than that which is in the camaro and the firebird? How big of a pain is it. My 3.4 was two bolts but that doesn't seem to be the case here.

    its not that bad, the worst part is that the heater core hoses come through it somehow, but its doable, i am not sure if its the same on that car

      had the same thing happen on my moms 98 monte carlo, also a 3800 series 2. you can get just the pulley with a new bearing in it. only thing to remember is the bolt holding the pulley on is a left hand thread.
      foggy headlights? wetsand... buff... WAX!!!
      if nissan motorsports is nismo does that mean honda motorsports is homo?

            yeah, i guess my whole shebang was worn when i got mine done, otherwise yeah, just replace the pulley

              How does it get worn out? I understand the pulley. My pulley was 115k, buddies camaro was 105k, and gf bonneville was 90k. But how does a steel assembly that has fluid pass through it get warn out? I'm curious.

                the tensioner is a little bit more than a steel assembly with a pulley. theres a spring type mechanism in there that keeps tension on the belt, hence the name "tensioner". that spring dosent last forever.

                  This is probably true but i dont see it all of a sudden getting worn out. It could happen though.
