What kinda octane gas do you use?

I use 87 Octane and I get only 220 miles per tank... which is ****tier then many v8's I know

if your V6 doesn't have a blower or advanced timing then you should use 87 octane, otherwise use 93 to prevent detonation. The higher the octane the slower the burn, plus your wasting your money on 93 if you don't need it

It really depends...I usually will go around 270-280 before I hit the "check gages" light. It comes out to anywhere from as low as 18mpg to as good as 22mpg. I do a lot of city driving and very little highway driving.

Actually the V6 was designed to run 87, it has a knock sensor in it to retard timing if it needs it. It will not 'run crappy' your just wasting your cash unless you advanced your timing or have a need for 93 octane

I normally run on 87... especially with fuel costs being so high right now.

Yeah my dad read something in a hot rod magazine or something along those lines about the octane, it said in there that if your car was designed to run on 87 and you use 91, the 91 can actually hinder the performance of your car a little bit. I guess because they take some stuff out of the gas to make it 91 octane and the car could actually be deisgned to run on the stuff they take out of it.
The article went something along those lines
I'd run 87 unless you are modded to a point where you need 91.

97 Firebird was getting about 220 miles to the tank as well, then I realized that if u dont floor it around town you can get good gas milage LoL. I started getting about 22-24 with mostly city driving and a bit of highway here and there, so about 350 miles to the tank but I alwyas fill it @ 300 with a few gallons left over. Did SLP CAI and my all freeway milage went up to 31 or so mpg.

I use Amoco or Texaco 93 Octane only. When I fist got my car, I used 87, and remember numerous times of having to pull the Throttle Body and IAC Sensor to clean them. The carbon build-up was outrageous! I started using 93 and the carbon build-up isn't nearly as bad as what it used to be. Now, I have a little "hooptie" 4-banger that runs on 87. The Camaro just sits in the garage waxed and covered awaiting springtime and barely gets driven, so I don't really worry about gas mileage too much anymore.

I use the mid grade (89) on my 2002 RS. Doesn't need the premium. I know it says it will run at 87, but i figured the 89 would be a little better. Does anyone else use the 89 octane?

88 or 89 here. I ran my mustang on 87 for a while, and it started running poorly. I switched to 91, and it ran great. so I figure I will just run 89 regularly, and I have been happy.

You guys can run lower octane gasoline because of your lower comression ratio. Running higher octane gas will cause the fuel mixture to ignite later in the combustion cycle, which could possibly cause some performance issues.

Higher octane is also less prone to knock. Using lower octane gasoline in a higher compression engine would cause performance problems, because the fuel mixture would ignite due to compression, not because of spark. This creates knock, and knock is bad.
