  • How do you get to this bolt?

The other day I posted something about replacing the lower gasket on the egr valve. Well today I had the time to try it but there is a heat shield in the way. I can get the top bolt off but I cannot even get to the lower bolt of the heat shield. Anybody that has done this before please help.

peel back the sheilding.I had to do this when I put the 2.8 EGR on the 3.4 manifold. Then just bend back & use a hammer to smooth it out.

its easy if you remove the EGR itself. unplug it, then remove the two nuts holding it on. lift and remove the EGR itself and then you shoulnt have a problem w/ that nut.

But there is a bolt under the shield. In order to get the egr out I need to get to that bolt.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, are you talking about the EGR pipe that is bolted to your manifold? I'm not sure how a 3.8 differs from the 3.4 setup. But I think your talking about the little heatshield with the tube that connects into your manifold on the bottom of the EGR right? Well on my 3.8 I replaced the EGR and I decided hell i'll just take off the tube and clean it out while i'm here. Well the bolt was so rusted in the manifold that I broke the head off. Now I can't connect it back and there is no way to drill it out without taking the manifolds off. So I had to tack weld the top if it on and cover the rest in muffler mender, and it still leaks every now and then. It's just best to leave it on there. If you aren't talking about that then carry on, lol.
