I have had a sputtering problem for over a year now...it basically got to the point where i would just deal with it, but now im over it....i changed all of the plug wires today, for about the 4th time in the past 12 months..the sputtering and service engine soon light went out...then it came back about 8 miles later...like it always does....long long ago when i first experienced this, i got the SES code from autozone..it was a misfire on #4....so i changed everything out, it was good...for a day..or so....now...i got the code today when it came back...says same thing, but #1...my thought is since #1 and #4 share the same coil, that the coil is bad...what do you guys think?...im tired of changing out parts for no reason.....does this sound like a coil?...a fuel injector?...maybe a sensor of some sort?...i got another code today P0442, which is a small evap emission leak....according to the people ive talked to..thats the gas cap...could the gas cap be the ENTIRE problem?...could air be getting sucked into the gas cap and through the injectors when i punch the throttle causing a sputter?...i wouldnt think so, but who am i....let me know guys...please!

check your MAF sensor, mine cause problems like that and eventually threw a misfire code after the MAF code
the codes should tell you what it is but it could be anything if you did the plugs and wires properly move onto something else i swore that the plugs were causing my problem before it threw the MAF code
fuel pump, injectors, lines, could be a fuel leak somewhere are the fuel lines rusting out?
