Hey all I just have a quick question, today when I came home i noticed that I had like a "clunking" noice comming from the rear passanger side.....it happened when I went over the bump from the street to my driveway....any thoughts of what it may be? It seems to happen when I go over bumps I thought it was my shock at first but when I got out of the car I pushed down on the side and nothing happened.......no noise at all

Re: strange noise
I know this sounds dumb, just check and make sure your jack and spare are tighten down properly. Also, are you going over these bumps fast? Pushing down on the corner of a vehicle doesn't reveal much about our cars except maybe putting a dent in the rear or distorting your front fender...old timers used to use to see if the shock is okay...usually a multiple up and down motion of the body tends to indicate a failing shock.Last edited by Christopherrr; 04-30-2007, 09:42 PM.

Re: strange noise
a loud "THUD" is usually suspension related
a not-as-loud-but-still-pretty-loud metallic rattling sound is probably the exhaust...
your best bet is (sorry to say this) to get under the car and look. check for anything thats loose, check for telltale signs of contact. you'll see that any rust or powdercoat or w/e will be absent... almost like the look of metal rubbing on metal...
make sure to check for any clearance in the sway arm bushings or mounts. i'll bet thats what it is.2000 3.8L Camaro A4 Pewter Y87<br />K&N Filter, SLP Ram Air kit, Eibach Pro Kit, Flowmaster 80 series, Silverstars, NGK plugs and MSD Super Conductor Wires, Electric Water Pump

Re: strange noise
Had a similiar noise when crossing bumps (including the threshold to the driveway). Checked suspension and muffler related items and found nothing unusual. As I was trying to manuever under the car and pulled myself along by grabbing the drive shaft, it made a sharp 'clunk' against the transmission (auto) output shaft housing. My output shaft seal was worn (and I suspect that the output shaft bushing is worn) and the driveshaft slip-on yoke that goes over the output shaft was able to easily make contact with the transmission housing. I replaced the seal and this gave it resistance to keep the yoke and the housing from making contact. Still need to have the bushing checked some day. No more 'clunks' going over bumps. Good luck.
