  • Signs of a bad fuel pump?

Well lately my car hestitaes a lot when starting adn when it does the engine revs itself to about 2k then drops. Then back up. I changed the fuel filter and the plugs and wires checked out okay. Could I have a bad fuel pump? Whenever I get off of my car, there is this strong smell of gas. The cap is locked and everything so I am thinking fuel pump. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Get a fuel pressure tester and check the pressure and how long it holds the pressure for.

My car had a terrible time starting when the pump was failing, and when it would start and get pressure tested everything was fine. Pump or FPR maybe!

Had the same problem. Was the fuel pressure regulator.
