You should already have a 180* thermostat since you have an 01, 99+ cars come equipped with the 180* and 93-98 came with 195*

The 180* degree thermo is when the thermostat opens up to let coolent start flowing threw it. It doesnt mean thats what the engine will run at all the time. This is where I got that info, http://engine.firebirdv6.com/

I hope that a mod sees this and moves or closes it.

This can quickly be solved one of two ways.

Except when you search on this topic you find this same conversation with some people saying 180 and some people saying 195 with no resolution to the question.

I believe what happened is that some 99+ have a 180 but most have a 195.

The easiest way to find out what you have is to remove yours and look at the number on it. I put a 180 degree thermo in mine and when I took my stock one out it said 195. I have a 1999.

I don't know about what year had what thermostat, but I do know that AutoZone sells them all. The AutoZone brand thermostats are $4.99 each and come in either 180º or 195º, your choice. I believe they are titled "medium-temperature" and "high-temperature" respectively. They also have the namebrand thermostats in 160º,180º,and 195º. Those are <$15.

Kind of off this topic of 180 thermos but will the 160 degree from SLP work for our v6s even though it says LT1 on the website?

for some weird reason the guy at Autozone told me that a 180 thermo would do more harm than good ("heat car up more than cool it")... i was like wtf? and he continued to babble his *** off so now i am confused as all hell... can someone please clear this one up for me, i feel like a dumbass...

also, will this effect gas mileage?
