Hello all, I'm new to these late model firebirds, and had some questions about the engines in the 4th gen firebirds. I know they had the L36 naturally aspirated series II 3800, but is there any difference between that and engines in say a Buick or other GM car? I know the firebird and camaro are rear wheel drive, and the others are not. Basically wondering if you can take that engine from any car and use it in a rear wheel drive application, or do you specifically need one from a firebird or camaro. I have searched and can't seem to find that there is any difference. Thanks for any insight!

Re: Newbie questions
same engine, just can't use the supercharger as there are tons of custom modifications that need to take place to make them work.
you can use the shortblock though.
Where did you search, because the search button at the top will bring up tons of threads on this if you used it. Just to point you in the right direction next time.

Re: Newbie questions
Thanks, I was actually searching online, not in the forum, but will start here next time. Very interesting info also. So the intake just needs to be turned around then to use some of the other 3800 engines? Wasn't looking for the supercharged version. Also what transmission do these cars use?
