  • What fluids does JiffY Use?

Ok well i remember about a year ago i got a 100% tranny flush and filter+ gaskets or w.e replaced from Jiffy Lube (sears automotive) . My tranny fluid looks good as its always been(red), but does do a weird shift into 2nd when its cold. It kicks noticably hard only sometimes and is usually when its shifting around 2200 rpms', but if i get it to 3000k then it usually will shift fine even when cold, into second. And has been doing this since i can remember. Also, every other gear my A4 shifts into, is a nice shift, no tranny slipping either.

My real question is, what kind of fluid/filter do u think they used and how good is this fluid, and should i change it? They also charged me like $180.

how long has the fluid been in your car, and how many miles does your car have on it?
it's redamended to have your trans fluid flushed every 60k miles

my car has 128k on it now and i got it almost a year and a half ago. The fluid starting at 117k didnt look bad but didnt look as good as it does now.

Jiffy Lube is known for not doing what you pay them to do, are you sure they even changed the fluid?

When I worked at Napa, Jiffy Lube had a contract that I assume all Jiffy Lubes have in which they always bought the lowest priced products. This means they install economy belts, gaskets, fluids, etc. The economy products at Napa aren't bad at all, but because of that, and also the gossiping of my coworkers, I've decided to never take a vehicle into Jiffy Lube. I don't have any first hand experience with Jiffy Lube, but my general perception is that if you have any doubts about their quality of work, you're probably right.

damn, well that sucks. What do people usuallly do to get all the tranny fluid out their trannys when doing a full flush for different fluid. Becuase i heard its something that u pay something to do. But if all u have to do is take off the pan and drain all the fluid. what about the filter in there?

I was thinking about some royal purple, and see how my tranny performs after that, sicne i have heard only good things about royal purple.

Yes you change the filter after you drain the fluid from the pan,
its like changing your oil, you dont leave the old filter in there, not all chains like that do ****ty work if they even do the work, but some do and because of that i wouldnt even risk it take it to a mechanic you know, or at least watch them and ask for all the old parts. Pep boys is by far the worst IMO i made the mistake of taking my car there for some simple wheel work, rotation balance and alignment right? they scratched all 4 of my rims, and slapped a huge line of weights right in the middle of the rims, left huge sticky pad residues on all of the rims, and didnt even balance one of the rims, ALWAYS check the work if youre not sure

sounds pretty inconvienent. Well i called Jiffy Lube and i asked them what fluid they use on trannys for the automatics and he claimed that they use the Gm decron III or however u spell it.

That's why I always do my own work when I can...the sense of security of knowing it's done right.

Flush and change your fluid and if that doesn't help, your shift soleniods might be going out.
