• Strange little red button under dash

As I mentioned in another post I just recently bought a 97 Firebird. Its my first 4th gen and I've been trying to get a few little things in top shape. My turn signals aren't working properly so I went to replace the relay that I heard can sometimes be a problem.

While I was under the dash I found a little red button. I have no idea what this button is for. Its mounted in the middle above the break pedal. Does anyone else have a similar button or is this some crazy home job that someone rigged.

on the brake pedal?

sounds like the button for the tail lights. push it and ask someone to see if your brake lights come one.

I think its red, its been awhile since I have been down there

No. I wasn't very clear I guess. Its hard to explain. Its above the break pedal on the plastic piece thats right under the steering column. If you're sitting in the car with your legs extended it would be around the middle of your shins I guess. Its a really small button. I'll get some pictures of it tonight when I get home.

It doesn't really look rigged but at the same time it just looks out of place. I'll get a picture and see if anyone can identify it then.

No. The ejection system button looks different. At least it does in my black third gen.

yeah ... that's the nitrous button...it came standard with only 97 firebirds (not camaro though)....your car has a hidden nitrous bottle next to the fuel tank....enjoy the extra horsepower.... ;)

Do you have an aftermarket alarm? It could be something to do with that.

its most likely the valet button/switch for your alarm.

Here is the picture I snapped earlier today. I'm kinda afraid to push it to find out what it is.

yeah, that could be just about anything. there are two ways to find out what it does:

1. track down the wires
2. push it

Maybe it was used as a drug car to smuggle heroin in the country and its a self-destruct button.
