  • ok car died driving down the road....

i had been having some problems with the car for the last couple days, i was thinking it was my plug wires but i replaced them and then jsut driving down the road out of no where the car dies on me.

me and a friend pushed it into a parking lot and it was towed to the shop where i useally have work done on it. Now when i tried to start the car it sounded like it wanted to start and would sputter really hard for a sec and then die. Im guessing it is my fuel pump, what do you guys think it is?

car is a 2000 camaro a4 with 132,000 on it

Was it sputtering before it died? As in had less power going to the engine? Because as the line dried up it would have started to sputter as it was burning on fumes.

Have you checked your timing chain or even looked at it? Car could be off in timing just a bit, maybe.

Check to see if your fuel pump is priming, and then shout back at the newest condition of the problem.

you need to give us more information other than "it just died." Did it make any odd noises beforehand? What were the readings on the gauges? fluid levels?

sounds like when my fuel pump went to the pooper. Do you hear it running at all? Get a fuel pressure gauge on it and see what it reads

sorry i am a newbie to this car and others but can't you just press the schrader valve to let the gas pressure out and then turn the key and then push it again to see if there is pressure.wouldn't that tell you if it is out or not?

You could do that, but there needs to be fuel in the line for anything to come out. And even if some does come out, it still doesn't rule out his fuel pump. There may just be enough in there to spray out the valve, but not enough to turn the car over.

Edit: And it's way easier just to turn the key to the Acc and listen closely to hear if your fuel pump turns on to prime itself.
