  • Lets say a car has been through a freshwater flood... and the engine will not start

I'm assuming this car I'm looking at was almost completely submerged. It's a no-brainer that water went up the tailpipe and the engine was flooded and that pretty much the whole car went under water.

About how much do you think it would cost to get the car in excellent running order?... (don't account for any aesthetic damage in your estimate...)

Most cars that have been through a flood are not salvagable by law. They usually only allow those to be exported or used for racing.

the engine will start no problem........IF, noone tried to start it after the flood. If the engine wasnt turned over at all after the flood, just change ALL fluids in it, i mean every single fluid in a car, and it should start right up.

If someone did actually try to start it, the engine is beat, and you might as well just get a new one.

Who knows how much it's going to be when there is no pictures or detailed description of the damage or possible hidden damages.

Just from the vague general description, the vehicle already sounds like a total loss. You'll end up putting more money into it than what it's worth. Sounds like the owner is looking for a sucker.

Thus you don't buy a trashed car, that you have zero clue whats wrong with other then.. its in a flood and try to fix it if your on a budget.

i would not buy the thing based on the vague description you gave. i know you are lookin for an fbody so look on the auto trader or find one for sale on ebay that is near you (always look at the car in person and try to get a test drive before you buy it). used car dealerships are sometimes OK sometimes you will just get scewed though. shop around and you will find one in good condition (aka hasnt been through a flood).

i dont know if you've been around this board much but you should be aware that most people here when they get into an accident their car gets totaled... WHY is that? Cuz our cars aren't worth all that much anymore, 98 and newer are worth more - and if you wanna replace an engine and stuff in them then go ahead... anything older you'll prolly have to spend more than the cars worth to get everything working again.

yeah and like other people said if you want an estimate give us more details about that car.
and remember a flooded car can have NOTHING wrong with it....OR everything wrong with it... No one knows for sure until they start replacing things.

Also - on another note: lets say u bought this car. replaced everything. cars in mint condition. BUT it still has a flood/salvage title. After its been insured and everything if you total it *godfabid* you might get royally screwed by insurance cuz the car has been deemed a total loss at one point.. you'll prolly get next to nothing for it... this happened to my cousin :(

                            well good luck

Unless you just want a race car, I wouldnt do it. Less hassle and cheaper to just get a 96+ with a 3.8L in it and call it good.
