  • is my thermo worthwjile??

my friend with an ls1 is telling me that the thermo i have for my car isnt doing it any god, and that i need a manual fan switch to make it worth anything. he says it will release the coolant but there will be nothing to use it or something because the fans still wont turn on until 210 deg or something. i dont like thinking that this was a waste of money no matter how cheap it was. i see a lot of people on here with just thermos and no manual fan switches. the one i have seen on thunder racing is $100 or something. please tell me my thermo is worth something or if i really should just go ahead and invest in a fan switch

Well what you need is tuning for the thermo not a manual fan switch. Call your friend an idiot.

yep, the collant has nothing to do with the fans. you need your comp to be tuned for it. hes a retard. i dont care if he has an LS1 or not

your getting ripped off if you pay $100 for a manual fan switch...you can make one for 12 bucks or buy one from slp for like $30-40

Fans do have something to do with the coolant. They turn on to cool the coolant down and thus make the engine even cooler. Thats why your thermostat isn't actually doing anything but staying open longer. The computer tuning sets the fans to come on at a lower temperature effectively lowering the average engine temperature.

Why is his friend an idiot? The thermo by itself is worthless. You need to get those fans on earlier. The options would be a manual fan switch or custom tuning. I spent $16 on the parts from radio shack to make my switch.

His friend only giving him one option makes him an idiot?

Custom tuning for it is probably overkill. It is more of a track mod. I only use my fan switch at the track. I could care less if my fans turn on early enough to take advantage of my 180* thermo on the street.

I am not sure if you can borrow his hpp3. As far as I know a hpp3 can only be used for 1 VIN number. Too use it on another car you have to reverse the changes on the first car.
