 hey im new to this forum, i modified and own 82 volkswagen rabbit, it is currently out of commision. I have been driving my little brothers 95 3.4 5 speed camaro. I want to help him modify or swap out his motor, basically what i have read so far is: 3.4 sucks enless you completely redo or change heads. Does a 3.8 work well with the current transmission? we want to swap to ls1, is that an extreme swap i mean will custom motor mounts need to be made? how much extra is involved? should we just keep the 3.4 and swap the heads? the motor has 192xxx miles runs great just pops out of 2nd gear sometimes. The front of the car is black primer (due to replaced fenders and what now because of accident with the PO) the rest is burghundy. This weekend we are going to rattle can the rest black. My father paid 1,000 for it, which seems like a decent deal. anyway sorry for all the ramble

welcome to the forum, honestly i couldn't answer your questions but i do know that this site has a lot to offer you just by looking at the engine tech section. i believe there is a whole write up on the 3.4 and how it can be a great engine as long as your patient and do X number of things to it. Do some research on the site and you will find much info. On top of that theres tons of people cruisin this site who will surely have all your answers as many of them appear to be mechanical geniouses.

        don't build a 192K engine

and it sounds like the car isn't in great shape, so why put alot of money into it (and yes, it will be alot of money to do a swap, ~$5,000 maybe)

ls1 swap would be a pain in the ***.

3.8 would require a new tranny.

and building the 3.4 is up to you, but i wouldnt.

whatever amount of power that can put him in the 14sec range...i dont know much about these cars but im trying to learn, the car is in good shape it just needs a paint job and its not a race car, for a daily its fine we just want a little more power, so i guess the real question is whats the best bang for the buck?

going from 3.4 to 3.8 requires a change in wiring harness, and tho i missed where you said 5 speed, i still dont think it would be compatible.
