    Hey everyone,
I just received my new PCM from Wester's the other day for my '99 Camaro. I must say this thing is amazing. Whole new feel to the car. Anyway, after I put the PCM in, everything is ok except that I am getting error code 1336 thrown and of course the SES light is on. I was told by Wester's that I'd need to plug in a Scantool to fix the problem. Where can I get one of these things? Is it worth actually owning or is it just better to go to a shop and have them do it?

Error Code P1336: Crankshaft Position System Variation Not Learned (GM).

I'm not an expert, but from the looks of it, I'd say just drive it a while. People say that the PCM can learn things when your car changes. So maybe it just needs to take some measurements and relearn some things. I'd prolly just wait it out for a day or so. Somebody else may be able to tell exactly what you need to do though, maybe from the Haynes manual or somthing.

I bought a OBD II scantool from ebay that cost me $50, but I think you'll need to get the one that can change the settings. They are found on ebay too, but they are kinda pricey. Personally, I'd take it to the shop and have them fix it. If further problems persist, then I'd but the scantool.

I think he just needs to clear the code....unplug the PCM Fuse under the hood for 15 minutes...should clear the code.

you might need a tech 2, or EFI live to do a crank position relearn

i know a basic scan tool won't do it on a ls1. you need either the GM tech 2, or autotap/efilive

I went to a shop today and asked them if they could plug in a scantool into my car and make the error code go away. The freakin guy gave me all this **** about how the PCM is not calibrated correctly and the program is wrong and that the scantool won't fix anything. He gave me like a 15 minute lecture on the whole damn thing. All I wanted to do is borrow the damn thing for 5 minutes! Why are people so annoying!?!?! I was like dude I just want to try it and if it doesn't work fine but the mfr said to try it so I want to try it. He still wouldn't let me use it and wouldn't do it himself.

Go to Autozone. They may be idiots there, but they've always scaned my car when I need em to.

Clearing the code is not going to fix the problem. Like they guy said, the new PCM needs to be calibrated to your CKP. This cannot be done with a regular scan tool.
