take out a lot of panels.... put gauges in.... wire them up... put panels back in....

seriously, theres a lot of plastic to take out. search the appearance forum. i think i listed the panels and what order you need to take them out.

First you will need to remove the plastic trim piece, if I remember right there are 2 screws at the top. The clear plastic piece and the whole gauge cluster pull straight out, they plug into an adapter in the back. Then there are 4 little latches holding the clear plastic on. Then if you have the overlays just line em up, and stick them on, if you have the reverse glow you will need to wire it to your headlight switch. It's been a year or so since I've put mine on but that's what I remember.

do you have a pic? if they are like the ones i had, you don't have to take the needles off. You will want to remove the dashpad(the part with the vent just ahead of your instrument cluster bezel. It just snaps in with velcro stuff. Be careful to not crack it especially at the vent. The easiest way to crack it is to not apply equal pressure on both sides of the vent. Pay attention or you will be buying a new dashpad.

Next you need to remove the panel just under you steering wheel. Then remove the black bezel around your instrument cluster. There is a bolt on the top that would have been under the dashpad, and thats why you need to take it off. Once the bezel is off, unscrew the acutal instrument cluster, clear part and all.

It only hooks up wiht one wiring harness so once it is loose just pull it out and disconnect the harness. Remove the top clear panel(and the black part attached to it) from the stock gauge face on the bottom of the cluster.

Install your gauges. The needles pop off easily, but they might be a butt to recalibrate so I recommend getting the cover on without taking them off. Write down what rpm the car idles at and here your gas tank is at. Those are the harder ones to fix if you take them off.

If you do take them off, hook up the cluster to the the wiring harness(leaving it still unassembled) and with tach needle off, start your car and them put the tach needle on where it shoould be at idle.

From now on the tach will be slightly off, but better since you are automatic(i assume) it wont matter as long as it is close in the ballpark. If you take them off, just remember where the needle was when you took it off,and put them back as best you can. That might save you from going through this process.

After you get them in, hook up the ground end to a metal part under the dash(I used a screw that was already there and just made sure it had a good connection. Then using a continuity tester(has a pointy end and an light bulb end and a wire with a clip to attach to the ground) go to your light switch would should still be attached to your instrument cluster bezel.

Turn on your head lights and start poking the wires at that switch. When the light bulb comes on, you have found a hot wire. Find the hot wires. Turn off the lights and leave your parking lights on. Whichever wire is not hot now but was hot with the headlights totally on, is your power source for your gauges.

You will need a wire splicer, cant remember the name of it. Just go to a hardware store and describe what you are doing. You need the kind that will clip onto your powersource wire and clip onto your power wire going to your gauges. Do not just cut the wire.

You will be better off with the splicer. Now that it is all hooked up, test it and reassemble everything in the reverse of how you took it apart, and it should be peachy.

Oh yeah, take the . off your address in your sig.
