  • 3.4L mini-starter

I've been wondering about trying to find a smaller starter for a long time to help w/ turbo pipe clearance.

Well I came across one that might work. It's off a late model big block chevy truck. The 3.4L have a staggered bolt pattern and this starter bolts up to a bare 3.4L block I have in the garage. I just need to bolt it up to my car and see if it engages the flywheel without a problem.

It's a lot smaller than the stock starter and A LOT lighter.

I will try and fit it this weekend and give an update.

If it's off a truck, and much smaller, then it should have the torque you need. Good Luck.

Are you running you're exhaust piping above the k-member for this?
Hope it works that would be hell cool.
      Those 3.4 starters weight a good 10-20lbs

Yea, I'm going to make my own custom headers that come down and go above the crossmember. I also have a tubular crossmember to help as well.

I figured there would be more clearance with a tubular crossmember to begin with in that area since it's only the crank sensors and starter.
Regardless goodluck with everything, especially those custom headers.

FYI a 2000 or newer 3400 has a smaller starter than ours, and it should work fine

isn't that a FWD engine though? And it's mounted on the "driver's" side?
