    Hi people
This is a little tricky to ask because it could be so many things i suppose, anyway i quite often get a very powerful smell of fuel inside the car, now this normally happens if i've been idling then put my foot down, i've had the car checked for leaks in every possible area, from the pump at the rear to under the hood and there is / has been no sign of any fuel leakage at all, so i'm a little miffed about it so much so that i will end up selling the car purely because of this, as i live in Spain it's difficult to find somewhere to get a full diagnostic program ran on the car, and would this be able to find the problem ?
also the throttle pedal feels very loose, by that i mean i can lift it up and it falls by itself, someone reading this now is probably raising his / her eyebrow :D but i wouldve thought that this would be tighter ? anyway if anyone has an idea i'd luv to hear from you with your thoughts, also whats the going rate for a new and reconditioned AC Compressor for a 95 3.4L Firebird
    thanks people

    have a good one

    Re: Gas smell

Man I wouldnt get rid of the car just bacause of that. My car will do that as well. I think its pretty normal for something like that. As for the pedal, they all are like that. You can take the slack out of it by adjusting the cable/linkage under the pannel on the driver side.

What octane are you using? I noticed when I ran 91 in my '97 V6 Camaro...there was a slight gas smell due to unburned fuel coming from the exhaust. Since I switched to 89 octane and now 87, I get no fuel smells. :)

probably have an evap leak or a clogged evap canister.

          the pedal is normal

its what he is holding. Its located above the tank.

Had that problem once. The "Vent Valve" was bad on my 96...which was very easy to access. It was attached at the end of a tube that came from the top of the tank and was strapped to the underbody right in front of the rearend housing. Took me about 5 minutes alltogether to jack the car up, get under, locate it and replace it.

On the 98+ though, I believe it's connected to the EVAP Canister that is on TOP of the fuel tank. A very crappy GM design.

Does the car stutter at all while driving it? Was gonna say the smell could be from a clogged cat, but then you'd most likely have driveability issues as well, so....

                    Re: Gas smell

Thanks BLLDOGG, I'll check it out,
Radracer, the car doesnt stutter at all but i do need a diagnostic run that i'm sure of, idle is not consistent and i'm sure that my fuel consumption ( which isnt that good ) is due to the current problem ie, diagnostic, and evap cannister ?? probably.
at present my car is having to have a new rear box fitted to comply with EU standards even tho it is the original exhaust, cos it doesnt have an E number on it the car didnt pass the Spanish ITV test, anyway hopefully i'll have it back in a few days, but will get the mechanic to check out this EVAP Cannister and see if it solves the smell within the car,
                    thanks guys for your input
