  • PSA: Got an odd thudding noise in your driver's side rear? Check this.

For the past... as long as I've had my car, there's been this weird "thud" that happened once in a while in the hatch area around the driver's side. I thought it was a weak exhaust hanger at first, but then while washing the fender wells yesterday I discovered that this piece of plastc on the rear of the fender well was loose! It was apparently screwed in at some points, but the bottom part was just hanging around, and when I hit it, it made the obnoxious thud noise.

There's a set of retainers that it slides into, I pushed it back and it clipped right in. No more thud noise, and no money wasted trying to chase it down. For those of you whom have been reporting this noise (There were a few topics on something similar a few weeks ago), check this out.

I'm not sure where you're talking about, but I'll look at it when I get home.

Where have I heard that before?

I've got my digicam here. I'll snap a few pics and post them in a jiffy.

        Okay, pics ahoy.

This is the black plastic thing in the driver's side rear fender well. Not quite sure what it is - the floor of that little cubby in the trunk, maybe.

        http://homepage.mac.com/kefkafloyd/....sidefender.jpg

As you can see, it extends to the back of the fender well, and where it ends are where the clips are.

Pardon the blurry image, but these are the clips that I was talking about. It wasn't even clipped in for me, and after taking this pic I discovered I only had one clipped. Ha! You can get it back in by massaging the black piece of plastic's end into the clips (pull it back and slide it in).

That is also where the charcoal canister is...mine separated from the fender and was flopping around...You may want to check that...it may be why the lining came out.

Evaporative emissions control canister in technical lingo.

Captures gas vapors and stores them for later burning.
