  • belt tensioner and leaking coolant

ok, so here's the deal.... my old belt tensioner went south on me so i got a new one and replaced it. i drove about 10 miles and the car heated up to about 220. i pulled over and opened the hood and smoked poured everywhere....i noticed it was leaking coolant at the little elbow on the bottom of the belt tensioner assembly and getting all over the block and making smoke.... so heres my question. is there a gasket or something that is supposed to go into the coolant lines that run through the belt tensioner assembly... this car has about 95,000 miles on it.thanks for any help

Yea dude, its your water pump. Basically, theres a weep hole on the bottom of the pump, and when the internal seal starts to go, itll leak coolant. I got a brand new Bosch water pump from pep-boys and i think it was $40. Takes about half an hour to replace.

um, really look to see where its coming from. check ALL the heater hoses and such. If not, you might have cracked your block somehow, but i HIGHLY doubt that......

recheck the coolant bypass hose, it's that little 90* elbow just above the water pump & below the upper intake manifold plenum.
