Sythentics don't cause bad leaks. The fact that the gaskets need replacing do, and since some syth. may be a bit thinger it will leak if your gaskets are bad or need replaced. Most folks don't change all the gaskets like you should. Put in new gaskets, seals and so on, then have at it! LOL.

I am not a professional on this - but I had a 3.4 with 71k on it and asked my local mechanic if I should change to synthetic and he said it wouldn't matter now because of the high miles already on the car. He primarily said it would be spending the extra money for a little, if any, difference.

As far as the leak goes - no clue. I do know they make a special oil for cars with higher miles...

      Good luck with it!

I've switched back and forth on my '98 Camaro (82,000 miles) and it hasn't made any difference.

I tried synthetic in my '94 Passport and it started leaking in the driveway overnight, so I switched back and it quit. 135,000 miles.

When I got my car at 53k, my dad put regular 15-50 in it, then at around 90k I switched to mobil 1 10-40, and noticed a BIG difference. Probably because of the weight difference though, I have no idea why my dad wanted me to put 15-50 in it and he was buying the oil. I finally just said screw it, I wanna put 10-40 in it so I ended up buying my own oil.
