for the key fob that is in your owners manual.. if you don't have it let me know and I'll scan the procedures in from mine for ya.. I imagine the 97 procedures and 98 are likely the same.. as far as the PCM I have heard conflicting reports of how to do it so I'll leave that to someone that knows..

Just disconnecting and reconnecting the battery should reset the PCM or clear any codes that were fixed.

I'm pretty sure that it tells you how to program key fobs on www.installuniversity.com Last time I looked it was there.

BAD idea!

If you plan on disconnecting your battery, think about how your PC would like to be unplugged while it's running. There is no difference.

There is NO reason to disconnect the PCM, unless you are trying to clear a SES light that won't go away - even then it's not a great way to do it.

after putting my cai on, I now have the ses light. So I heard I have to reset the pcm because of this. It has a high flow cat as well. As far as the key fob, thanks guys. I bought a manual off ebay a while ago, but misplaced it. Guess I have to find it.

First you should make sure the:

1) IAT sensor is plugged in and working. You can do this using Autotap or at a dealership.

2) The O2 sensors are plugged in and functioning properly.

Both types of sensors are durable, but easily screwed up.

As for the PCM...when the car is turned off, what function exactly does the PCM perform?

Unplugging the battery won't hurt a thing.

Unplugging a PC hurts because the hard drive is VERY sensitive to electromagnetic fluctuations; ie, power brown/blackouts and surges. The magnetic platter can be physically/magnetically damaged by yanking the plug while RUNNING. When off, pulling the plug only has a derogatory effect if unplugging/replugging the AC causes a power surge unrelated to the actual activity of unplugging it.

Unplugging the PCM can only be harmful if the PCM takes a nice zap from the battery. Otherwise unplugging it is NOT detrimental unless it's done while the car is RUNNING as the data tables, etc get screwed up and corrupted like a BIOS can if you yank the plug on a PC repeatedly during a boot.......
