  • Horrible Vibration!

I'm not getting any responses in drivetrain so Im reposting this here. I commute now 100 miles each day and realy need to get this baby fixed.
When im driving Im getting quite a bit of vibration on the shifter, and the faster I drive the worst it gets. At freeway speeds if I put it in nuetral the whole car vibrated and you can hear a violent buzzing. I just replaced the u-joints on the driveshaft (steel 1 piece) and pulled the rear end out and found everything in good shape and tight, and I got my tires rebalanced. I have a 2001 3.8 and have changed over to 4.10's and an aburn limited slip, with no problems for the last 2000 miles since the swap. Im limited to diving at the very most 65 mph as the vibration feels like my car will snap from underneath. Could my tranny need servicing, it rattles in second gear, so maybe something internal is wrong? I replaced my tranny mount, that didnt make a difference. I bought axle bearings which i will put in soon. Could this also be from warped rotors? I know they are a bit warped because when i hit the brakes hard my steering wheel shakes and when i pull over without any major breaking the rear rotors are extremely hot. Thanks for taking a look to help.

    Re: Horrible Vibration!

Have you taken it to a mechanic or shop yet? Thats what I would do because the last thing i would want is my car to give out on me, especially when im on the highway...I wouldnt fool around with sumthing like that...You said you just changed ur gears 2000 miles ago? who changed them u? If it wasnt installed properly they will fail...could be that...at the very least I'd take the car back to the shop that put in ur gears and limited slip...

i did the gears with a buddy of mine that builds race cars, its not the gears, they show no wear at all.

could be a frozen caliper or maybe a possible inbalanced drive shaft

Well, all the weights are still on the driveshaft and there are no dings in it. Maybe I installed it wrong? Is it true that if you dont mark where you removed it that it can cause vibration? There are a number of teeth on the tranny end and I failed to mark the placement of the shaft.
