  • Walbro 255 fuel pump + blower. Still need the inline?

Just curious what some of you think. ATI sends an inline fuel pump with their superchargers, I've been running this one plus the FMU and my stock in-tank pump for about four years now. One of them is on it's last leg; it no longer makes the whining noise when I first put the key in the start position... and I'm finally going to upgrade to the Walbro so I don't risk running lean and saying BOOM at redline.

My question: is the Walbro strong enough to handle 90 psi or so of fuel pressure with the stock fuel pressure regulator? Or should I use the Walbro and an inline? I'm thinking if the Walbro is stronger (which it should be) the inline will actually hurt the pressure rather than help it. Also, would a Kenne Bell Boost-A-Pump have any effect on the Walbro?

    Curious...

    Link to Walbro pressure graph

    I would think so.

I remember reading something on the kenne-bell site that an inline will surge the in-tank pump. (but of course they are trying to sell their bap in place of an in-line...)

The bap will still overdrive even the walbro, since it will kick up the voltage it sees. I was getting 11 volts before the bap, 13 with it at the zero setting, and it will go all the way up to 18 volts at the max setting. (overdriving the pump probably is a little easier on the pump for occasional 13 second nitrous passes, rather than longer durations you might see on the highway with boost, although the kenne-bell site says they've had no problems with continuous operation of the bap)

I see about 4 more psi at idle with a bap, on a stock pump, turned full up. And I can push well over 65 psi when spraying and the fpr is pressurized, even running a 150 dry shot and matching the fuel requirement with the six accel 24lb injectors.

Where I was barely holding 60 with only a 120 shot, before the bap. And I was dropping off to a mere 45psi on the 150 shot, and the fpss was kicking in. (or out, as the case may be.) Now it's got plenty, in fact I run it on only the 30% setting rather than the full 50% max.

James said he had problems with the bap and aftermarket pump combo though, so if you haven't asked him yet, give him a holler...
