  • A/C and Starter...Fixed? Probably Not

Well because its so dark when I get off of work and am sometimes on call on the weekends, I had to put my ride in the shop Monday. Once again, it was for the A/C blowing hot and the damn car not starting again (it was just there for the same thing February). After having to shell out $980, I got my car back today. This time I was told that the compressor was bad...ok, why in the hell didnt they see that in February? I know they put dye in it to check it...it was all over the front of my damn engine. As for the starter....the original one lasted 9 yrs....why in the hell have I had to put on 4 in less than 2 yrs? What do they tell me?...."its probably underhood temperatures"! Probably? PROBABLY?!?!? I didnt just pay their *** for PROBABLY, especially when theyve put 3 starters on it already. I suppose that Sunday, even though I'm on call, I'll gonna jack the damn thing up, take the starter off and wrap it with heat wrap. If it dies again, I just know that I'm gonna go ballastic. I guess that while I'm under there, I'll put on my new torque arm as well. Perhaps that will bring me some enjoyment as its something I want to do and not something I have to do. Wish me luck and pray that I dont go on a 9 state killin spree....lol. Sorry for the rant guys, but I just had to vent.

The starter should have a metal heat shield installed to deflect the heat from the exhaust system. Maybe the first time the starter got changed the person who did it left it off?

Really? hmm, well I never actually took notice of one being there...but that doesnt mean it wasnt. Seeing how I never changed it, Im guessing that if there was one, that the tech at the dealership left it off. I plan on jacking up the car this weekend and wrapping it with some heat wrap....do yall reckon that will be ok until I can either find a shield or make one? Oh yeah, since I was a bonehead and didnt mention it in the previous posts....its a 93 Firebird 3.4 V6.

To be honest I have no idea what the dealership is replacing it with. All I know is, I picked up my car Wednesday, drove it not even a mile back to the house, parked it, havent went anywhere in it, tried to go somewhere in it last night (Friday) and the damn thing wouldnt start again. I'm beyond pissed off now...after spending $2000 on it for the same 2 problems since February, I will be showing my *** at the dealership come Monday.

But while Im thinking of it, let me tell ya what its doing. Back in '02, I'd get in it to crank it, turn the key-nothing, turn it 3 or 4 times it finally would turn over and crank. So to the dealer it goes. They put in a new ignition key switch. It does fine for awhile until late '05. Then it starts doing the same thing. I take it to a different dealer this time. They replace the starter, and has done this several times since, Wednesday being the 4th time in less than 2yrs. When you turn the key it doesnt do anything, the instrument lights come on and all that stuff, but the starter isnt engaging. But then you try it a few more times it will. Heat, or time of day doesnt seem to be making a difference.

is the security light coming on? sounds like your problem. the odds of getting several bad starters is pretty rare...even for an autozone starter
