So I am planning on going on a 1200 mile drive end of this month, well as soon as I get my other problem figured out. But what would you guys recommend for general maintenace? I am planning on new plugs, wires, distributor cap, radiator flush, changing oil, and new tires. What do you guys think is anything else I need to do? I am driving up to Canada and would like to try and not break down before or while I am there.

Oil change is probably the most likely thing you would need to do out of those. Just make sure you are on schedule or would be after 1200 miles with all of your regular maintenance. Check the air in your tires.

Assuming that you have a '93 and up F-body, you do not have a distributor cap. If your car runs good I only recommend that you change the fluids and check the hoses. If your tires are in bad shape then change them, if not just check the air pressure.

Make sure you serpentine belt is ok. Also, if the miles on your car is anywhere near 100K miles you might want to consider changing the tensioner and idler pulleys cause that's about how long they last.

haha, im making a hefty trip beginning of july, so im in that same boat. though my car less than a year ago or right at got a full tune up, and back in febuary i replaced my ignition coils so as far as that stuff goes im good. mainly just need to get antifreeze back into the radiator since i've been flushing that lately. then ill change the oil like a few days before i leave(that'll be about the time to do an oil change anyways) and ill be checking all my tires. checking all the fluids as in clutch/brake fluid. power steering, coolant, oil and along with my oil change im putting some lucas in. might throw some seafoam in my first full tank of gas, just for giggles. as far as that, check your serpitine belt, and all the pulleys(or well mainly the idler and tensioner pulleys) i had on my idler tensioner break on me last trip so i was bent over my car fixing that. to make things worse the bolt to the pulley broke on me, so i had to take that assembly off and leak most of my coolant all over the place while a car wreck happened right behind me. so, do check those pulleys... i recomend it. anyways, good luck on your trip, if i break down it best happen in idaho... if not, ill be ticked.
