Okay... We all know that the L36 in f-bods come w/ 200bhp and 225ftlbs of torque.

My question is why does the L36 that's transverse mounted in the base model Bonneville and Grandprix GT have 205hp and 230tq.? Isn't it the same engine just mounted differently?

My thinking is that it has to do with the accesories and how the belts are set up?

    Am I right?

No, there are differences to intake and exhaust which account for the rating difference.

On the 2000+ camaros and birds though, GM switched to tubular exhaust manifolds (shorty headers) to 'make plug/wire changes more convenient'...and yet it didn't make any more power? hmm...is that way the newer ones run so much stronger? :D

You would think so, But GM still rates them the same...

could it be like it was during the muscle car era where GM Ford rated the power plnats at one HP but we all new it was WAY more then there rating. Just a thought.

It seems like everday i learn something new about the 2000 camaros being better than my 98. It is feeling worse and worse about itself everday. Also a hate doing a tuneup on my car because that exuast manifold gets in the way. Now i find out that it is easier on the 2000+. Sorry i just like to complain when it comes to spark plugs.

odd, they don't mention the exhaust manifolds on the F bodies...
hmm...since 2000, the LS1's have been greatly underrated too...
a friend of my brothers...his girlfriend took her 2001 firebird (M5) to the track, ran a 14.9 stock...thats bone-butt stock. that's totally out there. Shorty headers go for about 160 over at GM parts direct ;)

What was the point of bringing up a 3 year old post for that?
