I found a small oil leak under my car. It's only 2 years old but out of warranty. I took it in to get checked cause it was hard to determine where the leak was coming from. They said It's the rear main seal and it would cost $600 to $850 bucks to fix it!

My question is this. Is it possible to fix the leak by snugging up the bolts or something like that? I'm sure the dealership would'nt offer this lost cost solution. And if that is not an option is $650 outrageously high? I think it is.
    Thanks for your help.

Hey OZ whats up? I think every camaro has a rear main seal leak. Maybee not every single one but a lot of people have rear main seal leaks and I think they issued a technical service bulletin for it. I don't know how that works at all. I guess chevy wouldn't fix it for free. Maybee you could have some luck with getting the price lowered since it's in the TSB database? I never done anything like that. All i can give you advice on is check at least 5 places on how much it'd cost to fix a rear main seal leak and go with the best one. Unless anyone else can back me up on TSBs thats my best advice, sorry dude.

Checcking through the old threads it looks like you have to pull the tranny to fix the main seal leak. Would this be a good time to upgrade my Torque converter? Or is it completely unrelated? I'm not doing the work myself and don't know squat about mechanics, just looking for a way to save some cash!
