• Security light on = no start?

When I put my key in the ignition and press the clutch in and turn the ignition forward the car wont start, also the security light stays on. 3 mins later that light goes off and the car will start. It use to do it once in a while, but now it does it all the time. What is wrong?

its different with my A4- i got 2 alarms in in (god knows why the previous owner put em in, its all messed up) and the little red security light near the headlamp switch stays on 24/7- the car runs though- whats up with that?

a couple times while driving my light was on too. That doesnt bother me as much as not being able to start my car when that stupid light is on. The the alarm still works.

Have you tried your spare set of keys?? I know I have my normal set that is getting worn after 8 years. And on occasions, it will do the same thing. But after 15 minutes of "kill time" I get get her to start. But I never have this happen with my spare set of keys, which are almost brand new!!

More than likely, the chip in the key is getting worn out and having a hard time sending the signal to the computer that you are the right set of keys.

Yep, the resistor in your key is most likely getting worn down/damaged. It is very, very annoying to have to wait to start the car. Same thing happened to me a while ago. After a while the car gave up on my key and the Security light stays on 24/7, meaning the security feature is disabled on my ignition. Spare key cots $30 ( GM....) Make sure the contacts on the chip on your key are clean, maybe even try sanding them clean. Another possibility is that the part in your ignition that reads the resistor value has gone kaput. My .02 cents.

its not the resistor, its the damaged security "orange" cable in the ignition column.

Its a common problem on all Fbodies..

                just search for "Security Light"

I had the identical problem. If it's not the keys it's your master ignition cylinder. I had it repaired by the dealership.

                      warranty! Sorry.

THey basically have to take the ignition off and replace a part and then they need to cut you new keys (at least for me they did)
