  • Help with fans already spent $200

    First I have a 94 3.4 Auto camaro.

So after several trips to the mechanic I am still having problems. I first took my car in, as the cooling fans were not kicking on. They replaced the fan motor and the relay. Now the fans come on initially, but they then go off. They wait until the guage reaches 3/4 of the way up to turn on, then they go back down to half. However, this seems fairly high (around 235). Also, the car remains at half when moving. Do you think that this maybe has to do with the thermostat? If so do you have the part number for the thermo, as I heard it is a simple fix and worth a try.

Also being in Tucson where the highs are in the 100's, this may be too late too kick on. I would really not like to go to a manual switch, as I will probably be selling within the next two years.

Also, I had my AC charged last year and it ran cool for a while, but now is not cold. The fans do not come on when I turn the ac on. I am not sure if this is a related issue. Any ideas?

On autozones website they have this http://autozone.com/N,16301768//shop...eResultSet.htm

What is this, as this is not what I was thinking for th thermostat (195, 180 etc).

Install a manual fan switch. Our fan settings are very high.

probaly a coolant temp sensor. it actually tells the pcm when to turn fans on. turning ac on automatically turns fans on. but there is a wite up on here that tells you how do to a manual fan switch for like $12. so search a little

So where is the coolant temperature sensor located? I do not want to install a manual switch as it is not good for resale. Also, the fans DO NOT come on when I turn on the AC as they should. Any ideas?

Thermostat determines at what threshold temperature coolant flows into the block. Sounds to me like your fans are operating normally. Mine don't generally kick on unless it's a very hot day and I'm sitting in traffic.

So, now after taking back to the mechanic, the fans are coming on at about 235, and never get over 3/4ths. I may just get the switch and sell. However, now every time that I pull up to a light and stop my car dies. It looks like that when the fans try kicking on maybe it is pulling to mch electricity, as it wasn't a problem until I took it to them. I can easily restart the car every time, but what would you suggest about this new problem? I am so sick of taking it the mechanic that I will not go back. I am thinking of just replacing the wiring from the relay to the fan motor, maybe a short?

I will be getting a new car soon, so I really just need this mfxed for when they inspect it.

Your fans are opperating normally. Yes, the engine does run that hot if you are going under about 20-30 mph. Comes with the whole "having a car with no front grill which forces it to use the hot air off the pavement to cool the radiator" territory. The fan switch is easy and will solve it. Or a 160* thermostat. As far as the new problem, I dunno. Sorry.

Thanks for the reply. I will just put a switch in, but it is frustrating now that my car doesn't stay on. I think I am going to try installing the wiring and see if that fixes it.

Can a temperature sensor cause the engine to shut off due to a short?
****I have noticed that my sensor is not connected. the clip is broken, so the connection is not tight*** I am going to replace this and see if it fixes the problem. Anyone know what size extension and socket to use?
