I'll tell you I sure have learned a lot about cars since I bought my Firebird. Now I have another problem. It seems that I'm burning oil because my low oil light came on a while before I was due for an oil change before the last time I got it changed, and now I just checked my oil level today and its low, and I still have 1000 miles to go before the next oil change. My Dad said its ashame Im burning oil and I should buy a few bottles of oil since its burning oil like that for the future. WTF? Am I supposed to just accept the fact its burning oil, or is there a reason? The car is 2001 3.8 with about 48,000 miles.

Re: New problem.
I read somewhere just now the it could be a problem with the PCV valve? Anyone ever hear of that, and would that be related to me tampering with the air intake silencer...although I think the car was burning oil before I removed my silencer. Can the PCV valve be replaced if thats the problem?2001 Firebird 3.8L

Re: New problem.
If you're burning oil, your exhaust will smoke blue/black.
Otherwise, inspect your engine (you'll need to get the car in the air) and try to see if you have a leak.1998 M5 3.8 Mystic Teal Camaro
Flowmaster exhaust, Pacesetter headers, 3\" cat, 3\" S-pipe, whisper lid, ram air, Spec Stage 1 clutch, Poly Trans mount, Walbro 255LPH. Re: New problem.
Just because their is an oil leak, doesn't mean it is leaking to the outside of your engine. But, if it was leaking inside, you would/should definitely notice the black smoke coming from the exhaust, even if it is just on startup.

Re: New problem.
Yah, see if you can see oil anywhere under the car. I have the same problem, but I can notice oil that accumulates under the car then burns off. Unfortunately, I just have to keep some oil with me. Maybe try some of the stop leak stuff that you add in when you put the oil. If you don't notice any oil, it may not be that big off a leak and it may work for a while. It worked on mine when I first got it, but now I have a bigger leak. But like they said, if you are burning oil, you should notice the change in exhaust color. My Car http://members.cardomain.com/tucsoncamaro
3 inch flowmaster catback system, with ceramic coated pacesetter headers,3 inch cat,K&N FIPK

Re: New problem.
check your ypipe for oil dripping onto it and burning off, do you smell anything like burnt oil when you stop at the stop lights or anything around town?
