  • Car now stalling after fan motor and relay replaced.

    I have a 3.4 auto 1994 camaro.

I wrote another post, but at the time, the car was not stalling. As long as I am moving I am fine, but stopped at a light or slowing down I will stall. It does not seem to be mechanical, but rather electric. I replaced the alternator and battery last year. The cooling fan relay has blown 3 times in the last year.

Today I replaced the temperature coolant sensor, because it was loose. Now, should the temperature sensor have two wires from the connector for my car? I only see one green wire. This is the teperature sensor that you remove from the right side of the engine. Now there is also another sensor that sits vertically right behind the throttle body. This sensor has two wires. Is there two temperature sensors on the 3.4 or is this a different sensor? May sound stupid, but looks the same. Would a thermostat cause stalling if it were bad?

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

For everyone's help, thank you. Turns out the mechanic let me drive off of his lot without the K&N filter attached. Just thought about checking it when a guy at autozone with the same model car suggested the Air Idle Control Valve. I still replaced that, to see if it would help my cars idle. Anyways, this should fix the problem. Lets just hope that there is no permanent damage.

You drove off the lot without an air filter installed? How far did you drive? And how much dust, dirt, and debris do you think got sucked up into your intake while not having an air filter in there to trap it.

If something like that ever happens and you need a fix right away, remove your undershirt (preferrably a wife beater) and tie it to the air intake where it will act like an air filter. It will give you a deeper exhaust note and even give you maybe a 1-2 add to your hp. But don't leave it like that. Just keep it like that until you get the air filter back to install it. I used to have my neon like that once, but realized that after about a week of having it like that , it started to tear and rip due to the heat. Learned to never leave it like that for more then a few hours.

My car did that too. It was the temperature sensor right next to the thermostat. That one has 2 wires and goes to the PCM. The car can stall because the PCM controls fuel and spark based of engine temperature. The other temperature sensor has a single green wire. The only thing that controls is the gauge.

Everything seems to be working fine, now that the filter is on. I would never have driven it if I had known it was off. This is exactly why I hate taking my car to mechanics. They could care less how they treat cars. If something breaks, it means more business for them. I hope that there is no permanent damage.
