installing trunk / door release (in a car that didnt come with it)

so i bought one of those kits to give u a trunk release situation, however, it seems kinda hard to get the hook part into the rear lever

has anyone else done this, and if so, please give me some advice

also, any advice for adding electric door locks would be great too, as soon as exams are over, i'm starting on these
