• good diagnostic software for a '95?

I've had my '95 3.4 5-speed car for 3 or 4 months and have had both the security light and the SES light come on each something close to 10 times. Each time, either light stays on for 1-3 minutes or so, then turns itself off. I'm one of those unfortunate fellows with an OBD1 car that has the OBD2-style port.
Faced with paying ridiculous money for the simplicity of the trouble code extraction process, I'd rather just get my own diagnostic equipment that I can use again later. I know Actron makes a unit tht can do it and sells for something like $250. It has come to my attention that it's possible to get computer software that does the job and can be plugged right into the car's ALDL.
Has anyone located a software product that can extract my codes for about what I'd pay the dealer(~$100)? All I really want is the codes; any other diagnostic capability would be icing on the cake. Thanks in advance.

Well, if you just want the codes pulled to see what signaled the SES light in you're car you can take it to Autozone and they can do it for free.
I bought a scanner, it's an Actron. It might be the one you're talking about. It cost me $200+tax but it reads obdI/II codes and can erase the SES lights also and has the ability to monitor almost every sensor in you're car.
Im very happy with it.

unfortunately because of the port/system conflict, Autozone can't read my codes, nor will any standard OBDI or OBDII reader. The tool you have sounds like what I need. What's the part number, and where did you get it for just $200? Sounds like a deal to me!
