I Broke My Damn Key

:twak: My key was bent so I decieded to kind of form it back to normal, but I ended up just breaking it. I bought the car used so I have no other spare key. Wat the fu*k do I do I'm at work rite now? I saved the broken piece and the key has the little black chip built into it, my car is a 99 firebird. Can I go to Home Depot and have them make me one or do I have to go to the dealership and have them make me a special one????by the way this site is sick and this is my first post on here...help me guys

find a dealership and ask them to make you one using your vin number. Its really easy and only cost me like 10 bux or so. One place said they couldn't do it, but then another dealership said it was no problem.

thanks bro i called the dealership they said it would cost me about 50 bucks but at least i have a key today

You can keep one in your wallet and give the other to a family member or leave it at home.

yeah, our keys are expensive because of VATS, 50 is about right, you could also pull the cylinder and pull the tumblers out and then you dont even need a key anymore, just stick the chip in there

My car came with TWO sets of keys and key fobs :banana: . I think i went to a local ACE/harware store to had one made for my previous camaro. It cost me only $15. So, if you want to make a spare, go to local hardware store.

If it's 96 then you can go to local hardware store and get your spare key for $15. I remember it having that thing in the middle.

kala how does it work on you 96 i have a 95 and i went to lowes and had a key made and it work by turning the car to acc but when it comes to starting it then it doesnt work??

its all good now i actually just went to the mall and i remember seeing a kiosk that made keys gave dude both pieces of my keys and he made me a new one in about 5 mins and 35 bucks later and it works just fine..

Yah, my 94 camaro has the chip and has to be made at the dealer. Ace did have the key, but it was the same price.
