I have this weird issue with a 96 firebird. It's not mine and don't have as good of knowledge with firebirds as i do with camaros. When I shut the headlights off, the motor stays engaged until about 10 secs after the headlights have lowered. Is it the motor going out, some kind of relay/sensor, or what. It doesnt do it when i turn them on. Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem as you. i have a 1996 also and when I put my flip ups down it makes this very annoying grinding sound. I've researched on here and I found out to fix the issue you need to buy a new gear for the headlights and that'll fix the problem...Good luck with your headlight and now I need to do it for myself!!!
I just had this problem with my car tonight. I tried to shut off the headlights and a really loud grinding noise came from the front of the car. So i started looking around the forums to see what I could find.

and towards the bottom of the page it says something about a free headlight fix. I believe that is addressing the same issue that we are having. I am going to try that tomorrow and see if it works.
