Hey guys,
I have a v6 3.4 liter 1994 Firebird. For the last few months or so, I have been getting a loud sound coming from the pully system. How it works is kind of weird though. If it has rained or is colder, the sound will be extremely loud and irritating. Also since it's now summer, the first time I start my car for the day, I will almost always get this sound. It's like a high pitched squeaking sound where you can hear the belt running. I'm sorry I don't know a real good way to explain it, but It is definitely coming from the pully system. The thing is, once I drive my car for about five minutes and especially if I give it a lot of gas, the sound will go away and won't return until the next day. So if I start my car in the morning to go to school, the sound will be very loud, by the time I get to school the sound is gone. i can then go to school, work whatever without having the sound. But then the next morning its the same thing. I took a towel and some sandpaper and just put it under the moving belt and held it there for about five seconds with the car running. This almost eliminates the sound completely for the day, but is no way helping in the long run and is really annoying. My question is, has anyone else experienced a similar squeaking sound with their car, or know how to fix it? I'm thinking that my entire pully system needs to be replaced. Thanks!
