Main reason for the speed limiter I read is because GM was too cheap to put better tires on our cars, so since they're not rated higher then like 124mph or so, they limited our speed. I believe if you take the limiter off our cars will top around 145. Just be sure you get better tires before doing so.Kyle M<br />--------------<br /><a href=\"http://grdws6.netfirms.com\" target=\"_blank\">2002 Trans Am WS6</a> (silver, A4) - lid, cutout, stage 3 shift kit, 12 bolt, vig 3200, tranny cooler, bmr sfc/stb, torq thrust ii. <b>12.688 @ 106.47mph -=- 1.756 60\'</b>

Slap that auto in D (3rd) and it won't shift and pulls for me to 120...then it drops to 115/116 and slowly climbs to 119 and hangs. BTW one of you said our car would go to 145 or so. I highly doubt that. The Z28/SS tops around 160 and has over 100hp more. I say because of friction and wind ours would die at about 130-132...no more.

99Camaro99 i dunno about that...ive been a tad over 145 in a Mercury Cougar V6, i think it was a 98 model, me and a girl that used to go to my school did it, other than the S2000 i recently had the pleasure of driving that was the fastest ive goneR.I.P \'99 Firebird, you will be missed<p>New toy - 2001 GSXR-750, Yoshimura Exhaust, Power Commander, Rebuilt Airbox

145 MPH!!! :D
Hypertech found the speed limiter and was able to change it. Top speed results were done on a Dynojet at Hypertech. Here's the sheet...

Keep in mind that my Camaro has a stock 3.23 rear end and my mods listed in my signature. So the results of other F-bodies with different rear gears and mods will differ.
Hope this sheds some light on the top speed theory! :D <hr></blockquote>
145 IT IS

But guys...remember that is without air resistance and friction on the road. That 145 will drop quickly then. I still say our cars (due to weight) it will not go more than 130-132. Cougar's are light cars bro so it's able to pull a lot easier.<hr></blockquote>
Ok, you can say than, but if a 4 banger eclipse with no mods and 140 hp can hit 135 with 2 people in the car, i think our cars can do 145. When my speed limiter hits my car is still pulling very hard!

I would say 135-140. My 95 A4 3.4 would top out @ 130 because of no more balls.2002 M5 Bright Metallic Silver <br />*Fully loaded and modded<br /><br />2005 GSXR 750<br />*Micron Serpent Race Exhaust *K&N Filter *Power Commander *Trying to hit 200 MPH!<br /><br />1970 SS 454 Chevelle Cortez Silver<br />*It can pass anything but a gas station
