  • Speed Limiter Question

I have a 00 my car stops pullin about 120-122 but it does nto tach out like my truck would why wont it go any farther? With a NOS kit will it push it past 120?

  • #2
NO, we have a set speed limiter by our computer. It cuts the fuel off once you get to 120-125. The way to solve this is to get the HPP3 when it comes out for your car. Lucky for me its already out for mine!! :D

Then how come you can take a 00 computer and swap it for a 01 and the harness and all the electronics work fine? weird

Main reason for the speed limiter I read is because GM was too cheap to put better tires on our cars, so since they're not rated higher then like 124mph or so, they limited our speed. I believe if you take the limiter off our cars will top around 145. Just be sure you get better tires before doing so.

You think if I wen tto the dealership they would raise it? If I had hihger rated tires? Also I am thinkin about takin a chance and buying a HPP3 for a 01 if it does not work i will just resell it on here

This is one of reasons I'm excited about PCM programming. Most of all I hate how it shifts at 115 and 4800rpm into OD. Car is pulling strong until that point.

Slap that auto in D (3rd) and it won't shift and pulls for me to 120...then it drops to 115/116 and slowly climbs to 119 and hangs. BTW one of you said our car would go to 145 or so. I highly doubt that. The Z28/SS tops around 160 and has over 100hp more. I say because of friction and wind ours would die at about 130-132...no more.

99Camaro99 i dunno about that...ive been a tad over 145 in a Mercury Cougar V6, i think it was a 98 model, me and a girl that used to go to my school did it, other than the S2000 i recently had the pleasure of driving that was the fastest ive gone

                        145 MPH!!! :D

Hypertech found the speed limiter and was able to change it. Top speed results were done on a Dynojet at Hypertech. Here's the sheet...

Keep in mind that my Camaro has a stock 3.23 rear end and my mods listed in my signature. So the results of other F-bodies with different rear gears and mods will differ.

Hope this sheds some light on the top speed theory! :D

But guys...remember that is without air resistance and friction on the road. That 145 will drop quickly then. I still say our cars (due to weight) it will not go more than 130-132. Cougar's are light cars bro so it's able to pull a lot easier.

Ok, you can say than, but if a 4 banger eclipse with no mods and 140 hp can hit 135 with 2 people in the car, i think our cars can do 145. When my speed limiter hits my car is still pulling very hard!
                            ;)

I would say 135-140. My 95 A4 3.4 would top out @ 130 because of no more balls.
