Re: 96 rs vs 07 mustang v6
sounds like your bench racing, you gotta understand that horsepower isnt "THE" deciding factor in who wins a race.
anyways, a torque converter(or an aftermarket one, rather) allows you to rev your engine higher while still braking- its basically like the clutch of automatics. aftermarket ones you'll see are named like 3000, 3500 or 4000 stalls, etc. that is the rpm they can safely go up to. your stock one is rated around a high 1k to 2k stall. so they dont add horsepower, they just allow you to get more power ready for launching, they however, do make your drag times faster.
back to your original question though, id suggest simple stuff like learning how to race in an automatic (brake stalling - holding the break while you rev up). and you should look into seafoaming your car. my vote is that your car would have a good winning chance in an ideal condition, but carbon deposits have definitely built all up in your car, and are probably robbing you of performance. here
is a good guide for that. its really cheap too, probably under $20.
good luck with your race, show that mustang whose boss :)
