  • running rough,,,help!!!!!!

    I have a 95 camaro, 3.4L.

My car has a rough idle here and there, one minute its running smooth, then the next minute its pretty rough. It starts running rough after i drive around for a minute, when i come to a complete stop my car shakes pretty bad and my exhaust is really loud, it sounds like my car has a aftermarket cam in it, then i put the car in park the vibrations go away and it runs smooth again.

    any ideas?

do a search and youll be able to find things to troubleshoot your car with.
    check these first
    1. plugs and wires and packs
    2. air intake and then o2 sensors
    3. whatever else you find on a search
    4. talk a mechanic out of charging for a diagnostic, you should be able to find out your problem with a diagnostic. also, tell more about the symptoms(i know you said enough but more is helpfull) so if someone else had the same problems they could tell you have to fix it. good luck

        did you check these?

these are the absolute basics. go to an auto store and get a spark plug spark tester. check all your packs(coil packs) to see if your getting the right amount of spark. then check your plugs. my guess then is that it might be your o2 sensors. my friends car did it a little, but he ripped it apart before he fixed it. I would also see if you can weasle a mechanic to check your computer and injectors for free. i highly doubt it is anything else...maybe a feul filter, but I doubt it.

start with these things and post your results. the spark thing should be able to give reading of how many thousands of volts your coils are putting out. look for the recommemded voltage and compare. also is there an SES light(service engine soon) whats your mileage.

oh yeah and my car did this once because my plug wire somehow came loose and burnt through my exhaust manifold. check the basics and ill try to help you through the rest of the way...good luck

lots of people are saying it is because of the heat on the back of the engine(i think manifold heat) that is ruining our wires. get new wires if needed and then make sure they are no where near anything hot. you should be good then, while you are down there you might as well change the wires.

have you checked it out yet?

Okay, Mr. Service Manual says for Hesitation, Sag, or Stumble (Desc: Momentary lack of response as the accelerator is pushed down. Can occur at all vehicle speeds. Usually most severe when first trying to make the vehicle move, as from a stop sign. May cause engine to stall if severe enough):

            Sensors:
            Check
            - TP Sensor, for binding or sticking. Voltage should increase at a steady rate as throttle is moved toward Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
            - MAP Sensor.

            Ignition System:
            Check
            - Spark plugs for being fouled or for faulty spark plug wire routing.
            - Electronic ignition system ground, CKT 453.

            Fuel System:
            Check
            - Fuel pressure.
            - Contaminated fuel.
            - EVAP canister purge system for proper operation.
            - Fuel injectors. Perform balance test.

            Additional checks:
            - Service bulletins for updates.
            - EGR operation.
            - Engine thermostat functoning correctly and proper heat range.
            - Generator output voltage. Repair if less than 9 volts or more than 16 volts.

            That's all for now.
