Ok so I can hear a loud clankign noise coming from the pulley system when I start my car. I'm 99.9% sure it's coming from the ac pulley since it starts and stops after something engages (sounds just like shifting). Do I need to just get a new pulley or is there more to this? Also, I need to know the baest place to get one (any place but the stealership)

Re: ac pulley clutch bearing
Before you go blaming the A/C compressor bearing, take the belt off and have a good look at more of the items in the belt rotation group, such as:
1) Belt tensioner assembly for a worn or damaged piviot arm bushing.
2) Idler pullies for seizing and/or wear.
3) Alternator bearings.
4) Harmonic Balancer pully isolation rubber degradation or seperation (Failsafe lug contact)
Anyone of these items can start to make the noise that you described when the A/C is selected on and the compressor pulses are imparted into the belt group. Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)

Re: ac pulley clutch bearing
ok so more news, I just looked at it and I think I may be correct and have to replace the whole pulley. The clanking sound starts up again after I turn the ac off and then when I turn it back on, it stops after about 2-3 seconds (the noise stops that is).Car expresses who you are. Re: ac pulley clutch bearing
Another update:
I replaced the ac pulley and it fixed the pinging. I decided to look furthur into my car and noticed my coolant was getting kinda old, so I replaced that. Now the only thing left is royal purple ATF, royal purple oil, and replace brake fluidCar expresses who you are.
